517 Commemorative March
Southern France - August 14-15
2007
Dear Ben and Bob,
Here are some photos and a little text about our 2007
edition of the 517th commemorative march. It would be great if you could
include these photos in your website as you did last year. I'm sure the
veterans will appreciate seeing these pictures.
Here is the description of the march:
Once again this year, the French association "44
memories" based in Aix en provence organized a 517th PRCT commemorative march
of about 20 kilometers.
The march kicked off at Taradeau on August 14th at dusk.
We headed for Les Arcs where we all ate in the center of the village and
received a warm welcome.
Next objective was the Valbourges Dropzone where we
slept.
On the morning of August 15th, the 93 participants
entered the village of La Motte where we again had a warm welcome and a
great meal and participated in the official ceremonies.
with kind regards Gilles

I thought the veterans and friends of the 517th
would appreciate seeing this picture of our group. Please consider including
it in the mail call! I'm sure Don Fraser and Zoot will be pleased
about our impression of a platoon of Company A just after the drop.
I'm the guy with the blackened face just above the "517" letters on the unit
guidon. I had this guidon made in the USA and received it just two days
prior to the southern france ceremonies!
During the march we all had a special thought for our friend Boom Boom and
also had a freshly restored Dodge Weapon Carrier which we baptized the "Zoot
Snyder Express". |
