Becky Martinette, the daughter of Maurice White who was an
heroic medic in H Co, has sent me several orders of awards for members of the Combat Team. We will put them on the website and in later Mail Calls. I have tried to place one in this Mail Call. It is a little messed up but I'll try to get Bob to clear it up later.

Ben,
Through your media I would like to express my thanks to you and Bob-to the "other" Bob (Christie); to Jessie, Lou and daughter, and to many others that contributed to an excellent 517th OKC. We have frequently heard gripes concerning a hotel, the rooms, the service, weather, food, and a general dislike of the city (or state). I do not believe I heard one unhappy expression (other than our physical condition) from any in attendance. Good job-well done to all.
I look forward to the minies, Europe in 04, and the next gathering in Savannah. Somehow we should all plan a trip to Bragg during that time.
We now have an improved communication net with better ability to "net" with the Thunderbolt. We will have to remind ourselves to contribute both with items of interest and items of money to assist in the 517th finances. In that I'm likely to forget my birthday in several months, I had recommended "our" day of 15 August, as an annual reminder.

How I found the 517th page: Heard from a member of the 517th
Comments: My father, David Knee, was with Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 517th. I went on line to see if I could find his outfit, which I did. If anyone out there remembers my father, he is alive and well. If you have any stories or incidents that you shared with him during the war that you would like to share with me, I would love to hear them and pass them along to him. Question for you, Ben. My wife's father was WIA in WWII but she doesn't know what outfit he was in. Is there a way to find that out just by name only?
