Ben, my wife Edie and I were saddened to read of the passing of Harry Saunders. I have for many years felt a close comradeship with Harry partially because he was a member of Company E and he with his wife Edie attended several reunions. We were looking forward to seeing him in June, but now we will have only memories of a very caring and pleasant paratrooper. To his wife Edie and to all members of his extended family, my wife and I, extend our deepest sympathy.

Hi Ben  I just had a second phone call from Clint Land of Virginia. He meanders  a little but was anxious to talk- paticularly about Bergstein and one of my articles. He is sending me a packet of his material for use in a future article, He apparently went thru college and seminary after the war and rejoined becoming a Chaplain for the 11th Airborne. He said he hadn't been in touch for some time since having  a fall out with Bill Lewis I guess. Said he was going to Atlanta this week..Will share what he sends. Another county heard from.  Al

Ref: Mail Call 456, 517 Prct.....Since we did not carry our medical records with us  it could mean that the person received a tetanus or typhoid shot in 1943 and 1944. Are there any of our Medics or Doctors around?
A thousand kudos to Bob and you for the consistant excellent output on the 517th Website.

Regarding Lory Curtis' question about the "T 43-44" on the dog tags, I found this on a WWII reenactment web site:

M-1940 Identification Tags (Dog Tags). "Tooth" notched tags with chain. Each line contained a maximum of 18 characters. The first line was your name; The first eight characters on the second line were your serial number, then your blood type (A, B, or O), and the letter T with a two digit year denoting the year you received a tetanus shot (i.e. T 42). Underneath was the name and address of your closest relative to be notified in an emergency (i.e. J.W. Cashwell, 7609 Lamar Street, Washington D.C.) Zip codes did not exist during World War II, so don't put one on your dog tags.

Ben, this is the very latest list of names.  It
includes the one received today.  Sorry you have not
heard from us lately. I had to have another stint
placed with the 1st one I had.  The 1st had become
clogged & had to be cleaned out & then they also found
more clogging in the same vessel & had to place
another stint.  Doint fine.  Got home last Thur,  Went
back to work today.  Knew if I stayed home I would
just sit in my recliner, so I need to build my stamina
& thought it would be best if I got away from the
recliner.  They won't let me use a recliner at my desk
in the American Legion office where I am working.  We
will keep you posted on the registerations as they
come in. May is not really that far away.  Lou
