PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION FOR VETERANS DAY __

"On Veterans Day, let us pause to reflect on the sacrifices of all of those who have put on the uniform to serve in the United States military. Let us honor our veterans, who proved their heroism and love of country time and again, from Yorktown and Gettysburg to Iwo Jima and the Persian Gulf. They consistently defended our ideals across the globe; and they continue to inspire those who defend America today, half a world away. More than a million have died in service to America; and more than a million and a half have been wounded. Some sustained serious injuries in combat and now live with disabilities. Our Nation will always be grateful for the noble sacrifices made by these veterans. We can never adequately repay them. But we can honor and respect them for their service.
As we consider the sacrifices and efforts of our veterans, we must never forget that freedom comes at a cost."

Hi Ben;

Boom Boom Alicki's "What is a Vet?" should definitely give pause to those of
us who never served. The verse on "career quartermaster" would probably have
made Dad chuckle; quartermaster is the branch he went into after surviving
WWII. And the verse about the "old man bagging groceries" tugged at my
heartstrings because that clearly could've been the guy who handles my
groceries every week. As we close in on Veteran's Day: To all of you who
served, so that many of us didn't have to, please accept my heartfelt
gratitude for a outstanding job well done.

As most of you know I am an Assistant Principal at a large metropolitan high school.  Monday is a National holiday but the schools do not take this day off (we get plenty of other days).   On this Day, Veteran’ Day,  I will go on our closed circuit T.V. system and do a patriot theme about veteran’s reminded the students and faculty of the great sacrifices you and many like you have made.  I found this definition of the Pledge of Allegiance given by Red Skelton back in 1969.  I thought you might like it.  To all veterans.  Thank you for your service to our country. Subj: SGO (surgeon general office report)

Hi Ben: I am still working finding out information regarding my Dad (Nate Rubenstein).  I was wondering if you or possibly Clark Archer or anyone else had filled out a SGO-survey? I got a call today for the Congressman’s office that has helped me obtain my Dad’s medals and apparently my Dad filled out this SGO- which is a survey.  It is in St. Louis at the Personnel Records Department and is written in military code.  The Congressman’s office told me to write a letter to the Congressman (it has to be handled on a congressional level) and the survey my Dad filled out will be translated and sent to me. This survey might prove to be very interesting considering my Dad filled it out.  Obviously I am sending a letter to get this information and I have not idea how long it will take me to get it but that’s OK I’ve been doing this research for so long now the time factor doesn’t even matter. I was just wondering if anyone knew about the SGO survey. Thanks a lot. Chris LindnerNate Rubenstein’s daughter

Hi Ben, Thanks for letting me know the virus was a hoax. I received it from Some one else and they let me know this morning, that they found out it was a hoax also. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry though.  My wife and plan on attending the Fl. reunion, this Jan.  I wish my brother was here to go also, but some things are not to be. When he would come to visit us, I tried to get him to open up a little about his service days, but didn't have much luck. When he did talk about the 517th his eyes would light up and he would get a great big smile (Very unusual for him).  I told him once that I was planning a trip to Paris, and he said 'don't go to pig alley, they'll steal you blind". Then he roared with laughter.  Had to find out for myself later, what "pig alley" was.  Thanks again for your info.  We'll see you in Jan. Take care how you go and good luck in everything you do.   One Amazing Flag! Take a look at this picture! This picture was taken in Yuma, AZ on 9-11-2002. The flag was located at Fry's shopping center on the corner of 24th and 4th Avenue. Seller's cranes were holding it up and people were stopping all day taking pictures.
